“What does Evvy test for?” — we get that question a lot!

The short answer? 700+ bacteria and fungi.

The Evvy Vaginal Health Test screens for all bacteria and fungi that have been found in the vaginal and urinary microbiomes — with one swab.

All other vaginal microbiome tests, including other tests at the doctor's office or available online, use technology (called either PCR or 16s) that screens for a predefined & limited list of microbes. Evvy's test is the first and only CLIA-certified test to use metagenomics, an advanced form of testing that sequences the whole genome of all microbes present. That means you don’t have to order several tests to get a good picture of what’s up down there — just one.

All results come with a a custom plan of clear next steps, along with science-backed education, community, and 1:1 coaching. For eligible tests, we also offer integrative, prescription treatment programs.

For extra clarity, below is an abbreviated list of microbes that we often get asked about.

Evvy tests for all of these bacteria and fungi (& hundreds more!):

  • Atopobium vaginae

  • Ureaplasma parvum
  • & hundreds more!

A note on Ureaplasma and Mycoplasma

Research has shown that Mollicutes (such as Ureaplasma or Mycoplasma) are often present in the vaginal microbiome in very low amounts. If you are interested in testing for Mollicutes, please add our Expanded PCR Panel to your Vaginal Health Test, which is designed to detect these bacteria at lower levels. Also, since Mycoplasma genitalium is considered a reportable STI, it is only tested for via our Expanded PCR Panel.

Does Evvy test for Mycoplasma genitalium?

The short answer is yes — Evvy tests for Mycoplasma genitalium, but only if you add our Expanded PCR Panel to your Vaginal Health Test.

As you may have seen in recent CDC guidelines, Mycoplasma genitalium has been re-classified as an STI, requiring specific testing, reporting, and treatment guidelines. Evvy's metagenomic vaginal microbiome test (our Vaginal Health Test) is not designed to report on STIs, and any results from the Evvy mNGS test will not include Mycoplasma genitalium (meaning the results of any future Evvy mNGS test will not confirm the presence of absence of this bacteria).

The metagenomics-based Vaginal Health Test will continue to report on Mycoplasma hominis, Ureaplasma parvum, Ureaplasma urealyticum, and other non-STI species of Mycoplasma and Ureaplasma.

If you're interested in testing for Mycoplasma genitalium, you can access STI testing by adding our Expanded PCR Panel to your Vaginal Health Test. This will test for and report on Mycoplasma genitalium, in addition to chlamydia, gonorrhea, and trich!

What does Evvy's Expanded PCR Panel test for?

If you've ordered an Evvy test, you're already getting the world's most comprehensive at-home vaginal microbiome test with the Evvy Vaginal Health Test, which screens for 700+ bacteria and fungi in the vaginal microbiome.

But if you’re symptomatic, interested in STI testing, or looking for expedited turnaround for preliminary results, we recommend adding our Expanded PCR Panel to your Evvy test. Please note, the Expanded PCR Panel is not yet available in NY.

Evvy's Expanded PCR Panel tests for:

  • 4 STIs: Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Trichomonas vaginalis (“trich”), Mycoplasma genitalium
  • 10 Antibiotic Resistances: Aminoglycoside, Bactrim, Beta-lactam, Carbapenem, Extended Spectrum Beta Lactamase CTX-M, Macrolide, Methicillin, Quinolone, Tetracycline, Vancomycin
  • 11 Common Microbes: Candida albicans, Gardnerella vaginalis, Lactobacillus crispatus, Lactobacillus gasseri, Mobiluncus curtisii, Mobiluncus mulieris, Mycoplasma hominis, Prevotella bivia, Streptococcus agalactiae (group B), Ureaplasma parvum, Ureaplasma urealyticum. Note: these microbes are also tested for via metagenomics in our full vaginal microbiome test, but the Expanded PCR Panel tests for them via PCR with a 1-3 day turnaround

What certifications does the Evvy test have?

The Evvy Vaginal Health Test is a CLIA-validated test performed at a CLIA, CAP, and CLEP certified lab.

During the rigorous validation process, our test showed improved analytical sensitivity and specificity over traditional methods — finally bringing in the power and precision of metagenomics to vaginal healthcare.

Please note that Evvy does not replace your Pap smear or regular OB-GYN visits.
