“What does Evvy test for?” — we get that question a lot!

The short answer? *All* bacteria and fungi.

We know picking up on "everything" is not a common way of thinking about testing, but that's what differentiates our test from all others on the market.

The Evvy Vaginal Health Test screens for all bacteria and fungi that have been found in the vaginal and urinary microbiomes — with one swab.

All other vaginal microbiome tests, including those at the doctor's office or available online, use technology (called either PCR or 16s) that screens for a predefined & limited list of microbes. Evvy's test is the only one to use metagenomics, an advanced form of testing that sequences the whole genome of all microbes present. That means you don’t have to order several tests to get a good picture of what’s up down there — just one.

For extra clarity, here's an abbreviated list of microbes that we often get asked about. We test for all of these (& hundreds more!)

  • Atopobium vaginae
  • Bifidobacterium
  • BVAB
  • Candida albicans
  • Candida glabrata
  • Candida tropicalis

  • E. coli
  • Finegoldia
  • Gardnerella vaginalis

What we don’t test for
  • Anything related to human DNA! Evvy only looks at the microbial aspects of a sample (bacteria and fungi) and does not sequence or store any of your genetic information. Evvy's tests are processed by a CLIA certified lab and the samples are only used for the purposes of better understanding vaginal microbiome.
  • We  do not test for viruses or STIs.

Please note that Evvy does not replace your Pap smear or regular OB-GYN visits.
